In the Church of the Nativity there is the grotto where it is said that Christ was born.
The star "marks" the spot where Christ was born. Everyone was kissing it so Aaron pretended to do the same.
Church of St. Catherine
(the one with the intricate ceiling) is next to the Church of the Nativity. The church is said to be built on the site of Christ's appearance to St. Catherine of Alexandria and his prediction of her martyrdom.
The Church is also the site of a 39 day siege in 2002.

I learned about the Church of the Nativity in one of my art history classes, where one girl went "They can't really believe that this hole is sacred, how dumb" to which I loudly replied "About as dumb as a sacred forest or a holy metal tablet." Thanks for bringing back that memory.
